Have you ever struggled to trust the Lord? You may have seen him work mightily in your life in the past, and trusted him greatly as a result, but now wonder if he is even there at all. You feel as though prayers go unanswered, relationships remain broken, and trust may never be restored.

People Pleasing or Pleasing People?

Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. 1 Corinthians 10:24
 
Those who know me well know I used to be a huge people pleaser. I would be amiss if I told you I have completely defeated this bad habit, but I’ve come so far and for this, I am very grateful to God.
As a child, I learned that through people pleasing (being nice), I could avoid rejection which is what I feared the most. As a young woman, I carried this fear into adulthood and people pleasing defined me.
 
Recently, as I was reading Scripture, I came across a verse that reminded me of the difference between people pleasing and pleasing people. God wants us to avoid the first and do the second. You might be thinking, “Wait a minute. We’re supposed to please people?” Yes, indeed.

Moms Are Indispensable

For a number of years, I was involved in a local prison ministry. A few times a month, I would help lead a Bible study. I can’t tell you how many times I was told by an inmate that he was at the Bible study because his mother encouraged him to attend. Sadly to say, I can count on one hand how many times that was said about a father. Let me echo the words of Dr. Dobson, “Mom(s), you are indispensable.” God has given you a heart for your kids that is unparalleled.
